The betting platform Kalshi posted an AI-generated commercial on social media on Wednesday, featuring a series of absurd scenarios. The ad later aired during the NBA Finals, and it went viral. Its creator disclosed that it was made using Google’s AI video tool, Veo 3.

In a rush? Here are the quick facts:

  • Kalshi shared an AI-generated commercial that aired at the NBA finals.
  • AI filmmaker PJ Accetturo claimed credit for the ad and provided details of the creative process.
  • The video was created using Google’s AI-video tool Veo 3, Gemini, and other AI tools.

The 30-second commercial shows people betting on bizarre and unrealistic events and scenarios. Kalshi wrote “the world’s gone mad” on the post shared on the social media platform X, which currently has around 3 million views.

PJ Accetturo, who describes himself as an AI filmmaker, claimed credit for the ad on social media and provided more details on the creation of the commercial.

“Kalshi hired me to make the most unhinged NBA Finals commercial possible,” wrote Accetturo. “Network TV actually approved this GTA-style madness 🤣. High-dopamine Veo 3 videos will be the ad trend of 2025.”

The AI filmmaker explained that the project took him 2 days to complete and shared a newsletter post with more details of the creative process. “This took around 300–400 generations to get 15 usable clips. One person, two days,” wrote Accetturo. “That’s a 95% cost reduction compared to traditional advertising.”

Accetturo combined his creativity and experience with AI tools such as Veo 3 and Gemini, as well as editing tools such as CapCut.

“But just because this was cheap doesn’t mean anyone can do it this quickly or effectively,” added Accetturo. “You still need experience to make it look like a real commercial.”

The filmmaker added that he has been working for more than 15 years in the industry and invited other AI filmmaking enthusiasts to his team, noting that he has recently been hired by major brands and public figures, including YouTube star MrBeast.

As a joke, Accetturo also shared a mock “behind-the-scenes” video on YouTube, in a documentary style. The one-minute clip features the team behind the production of the video and interviews with the crew, and fictional characters—including an alien.

Google first released Veo last year in December, and has been sharing newer versions and updates since its release.
